Tuttle LA for Sept. 10, 2010: New Venue

Tuttle LA at Toorak Coffee

The photo above was taken at our beloved Toorak Coffee, Tuttle LA’s venue for the past year. It was a fantastic place: open, bright, strong wifi, big tables and excellent grub. Sadly, we got word earlier this week that Toorak had closed its doors for good. If anyone from Toorak is reading this, we’d like to thank you for your hospitality. Truly.

So where next? Jeb did a fair amount of searching and found us a cozy new place to meet. It’s called cha FOR TEA in Long Beach. Jeb says “The food is good, the tea is amazing, there’s good music and the patrons are interesting to watch. Also freeway close and free wifi.” Sounds the business, right? There’s a bank of tables on the back right that should suit us well.

I know this is technically an off week for Tuttle LA but when the Godfather calls a meeting, you go! Lloyd Davis, you know, the man that founded the Tuttle Club in London, is in America at SXSW doing Tuttle2Texas. He’ll be flying into Los Angeles Friday morning pretty much just to attend Tuttle LA. This might be the only time this ever happens… hey, you never know. Sounds awfully important right? But the bottom line is you’ll never meet a more lovely person, and if even a tiny bit of his wisdom rubs off on us, we’ll be better people for it

So if you only make it to one Tuttle LA this year, this is the one to go to and that means me as well. Yes, me. I’ll be there. Seriously.

Tuttle Club for 09/11/2009

Did you notice how different Tuttle LA felt last time? The dynamics of the group are definitely morphing into something wonderful as more and more people join us. It was the first time that I was unable to get around to talking with everyone. Don’t get me wrong, people weren’t falling out into the streets, but our little side room off the coffee house is getting a little more crowded. And what the hell are they doing to our space!? It was once airy, bright, and zen like. Now we’re meeting amongst racks or prom dresses, children’s shoes, and paintings of car crashes. Bizarre, but truth be told, I like it.

To all the new faces we saw last time, thanks so much for coming out. We loved having you and hope you join us again. To everyone else in LA that wants to meet up with the city’s only social media cafe, follow the directions below

Tuttle Club for Fri. August 28

First, just a friendly reminder that Tuttle Club LA will meet on the 28th of August at the Library in Long Beach (our usual spot). ANYONE even remotely curious is welcome to show up. Chances are, we’ll have something interesting to talk about. Mobile phones, social media, film, music… hell, we even had a Rabbi show up last week (and I got a Google Voice invite). That’s how we roll

Secondly, I think we’ve just hit a milestone without anyone noticing. The very first Tuttle LA collaborative project was completed 2 weeks ago. Tour Small TV launched last week. It happens to be a web show I’m putting out. Vaughan conjured an amazing graphic logo and Francine whipped up a magical blog (as she does). It’s even hosted on Jeb’s cousins servers. Now that’s a team effort!

I know Tuttle London is starting to do proper consulting which is a fantastic idea. We in LA are a long way from attempting that, but if you’re working on a web or mobile related project and would like some input or advice, why not stop by and see if we can help?
