Tuttle Club for July 17th

July 15th, 2009

Whoop whoop! We have an extremely special guest joining us this Friday. Mario Cacciottolo is a BBC journalist with an incredibly cool side project: Someone Once Told Me. He’s traveling all the way from London to soak up some LA sun and specifically, to join us at Tuttle Club so we can contribute to his project. THIS IS A BIG DEAL FOLKS! Please come and help the dude out. To learn more about what Mario does, check out the link above. Participation is not mandatory, but we will have to relegate you to the message chairs if you don’t (wink wink).

Tuttle Club for July 3rd, 2009

July 2nd, 2009

In observance of the 4th of July, Tuttle Club LA is going to take a week off. That means no Tuttle in Long Beach on July 3rd. We’re going to resume our normal schedule on July 17th. Oh Yes, that reminds me! July 17th…. we’ll be hosting a very special guest from across the pond, the very lovely Mario Cacciottolo. He’s going to want to aim a camera at you and snap a few pics of you holding a sign of something someone once told you. Please be prepared if you’d like to take part. I hear he’s very impatient and prone to violent outbursts ;) I kid.

Also wanted to throw and idea out there: how about let’s step Tuttle up a bit and hold it every week starting in August or September? Something to think about. So from Francine, Jeb, Al, Vaughan, Jen, and myself (did I miss someone?) have a great 4th!

Next Tuttle Club LA: Friday June 5th

June 2nd, 2009

@jebbrilliant and @1indienation find Tuttle Club LA relaxing

Tuttle Club LA is definitely picking up steam. We’ve gone past the getting to know everyone stage and are actually mixing in a bit of work as we meet. Francine has been working on a few of our blogs and Vaughan has been whipping out logo’s and avatars. It’s actually quite nice to work on projects with each other. Of course, it’s not all nose to the grindstone, we have a lot of fun. There’s a dizzying array of conversations you can dip in and out of plus you can marvel at the sheer volume of techy-gadgets that end up on the tables. If you get bored of that, we can always stick someone in the message chairs and laugh as they get pummeled (the message chairs are in fact cleverly disguised torture devices).

We LOVE it when new people show up, It’s open to everyone you know. Why not come down and see what it’s all about?

The Tuttle Club Annual Report

April 9th, 2009

I know, I know, we just launched this blog two days ago, and we’re already posting an annual report? No, we’re not getting ahead of ourselves, the annual report is from Lloyd Davis, founder of the original Tuttle Club in London. London Tuttlers started meeting a bit more than a year ago (I believe I went to my first Tuttle in February ’08), and in the report Lloyd does a wonderful job documenting how the group has grown and how the connections people have made have led to some amazing things.

As this Tuttle LA group is just getting going and still working out when and where to meet as well as what will be best for us going forward, I feel the most relevant part of Lloyd’s report for us is the basics. What is Tuttle? What are you supposed to do there? And who’s invited, anyway?

But before we get to any of that, take heed of Lloyd’s #1 piece of advice: “If there are any rules to Tuttle, it’s sure that one near the top is ‘don’t take yourself too seriously.’”

The basics, from the report:

**** What is it? ****
The Tuttle Club is a loose association of people finding a way of working better together both online and off.

**** Who goes? ****
Most people have an interest in social media or online social networking — beyond that it’s hard to categorise them.

**** What happens? ****
People come along, meet new people, drink coffee, talk, scheme, build new businesses, find clients, suppliers and collaborators.  In short, they work hard at getting things done while having fun.

**** Why? ****
Is a very interesting question. There are (at least) as many reasons as there are Tuttlers. Mostly it boils down to a recognition that building rich relationships with real live people is a tremendously valuable activity.

**** How can I help? ****
Come along. See what we’re doing. Share your knowledge and your dreams. Come again and bring some friends.

**** Can I come? ****
Yes.

For more Tuttle info, check out Lloyd’s Tuttle Club blog, or download the Tuttle Annual Report (PDF).

Tuttle LA Finally Has a Blog

April 7th, 2009

Welcome to the new Tuttle LA blog! We’ve been meaning to get this up for a while and ran into some technical roadblocks before we could get it up, but it’s finally here. We’re bringing together our Tweets, videos, Photos and more, and we’ll also be posting about upcoming meetings.

We’re happy to take suggestions for what you’d like to see here, and would love to have submissions from any members who want to muse about social media, talk about their visions for Tuttle or anything else that would fit in this space.

We would also like people to start RSVPing to upcoming meetings in the comments so we have an idea of who to look out for.
