Tuttle Moves to Toorak – January 29, 2010
The latest, minimalist iteration of our space at The Library
This week for Tuttle LA, we’ve decided to do something different — change venues. The Library has been wonderful for us, but our room keeps morphing into new side businesses for the coffee shop. The latest incarnation seems to be a combination art and open mic space, and there isn’t as much seating as there used to be for us. The internet connection also isn’t great. So while it’s been fun watching our room transform, this week, we’ll be trying out a new Long Beach coffee house — Toorak Coffee.
Please help spread the word about the change of venue so nobody gets left out.
This isn’t a permanent move yet — we’re just testing Toorak out. We’ve discussed moving closer to LA, and we’re still exploring new venues, so if you have any to suggest, please leave them in the comments or tell us on Friday. Our requirements: Free WiFi, a table large enough for 6-8, at least a few available outlets, an environment where we can be a bit noisy, and some sort of food and beverage.
Follow #TuttleLA on Twitter, or our TuttleLA Twitter List for more information.
If you’re coming, leave your RSVP in the comments below. If you want to know when we’re meeting in the future, check out our schedule.

The Library was a good spot, but I really liked the new location this week! Will be interested in Vaughan’s take, as he likes circular tables for big groups such as TuttleLA. Most of us seemed to have no problem accessing the Wi-Fi Internet signal too. I vote for Toorak.
Here is my pros and cons:
Pro for The Library:
Good and funky with a real unique coffee shop vibe
Cute boy barista
Cons for The Library:
The owner didn’t really seem to be very fond of us
The parking could be difficult
Wifi was intermittent to bad
Pro for Toorak:
Nice clean ultra modern interior
Good wifi
More food options
The Owner & the barista seemed very happy to have us there
Con for Toorak:
In a large strip mall with big box stores, so parking was painful for me, but fine for others.
I say we go back to Toorak at least once more and then we can see what we think.
I agree with David that Vaughan should weigh in his opinion.
I believe that Vaughan said he warmed up to the rectangular table by the end of our time there, though I’ll let him speak for himself here…
I really enjoyed our time at Toorak — I liked how much space there was for us to sit together, even with our computers, I liked the atmosphere, and I liked that the wifi was good. I also liked that there is a lot more parking than at the Library, so nobody had to worry about Friday street sweeping or 1-hour spots. It was also nice to feel like we could chat without disturbing people, and the food all looked good. They also have my favorite kind of tea, and it was 10-15 minutes faster to get there than the Library for me because of how close it is to the freeway.
Anyone else want to weigh in?
