Tuttle LA Recap for April 24, 2009

April 25th, 2009

I really have to say that the more Tuttle’s we have, the better they get. We’re still a small group, a total of 6 Tuttlers yesterday, but the quality of our group is immense. As usual, Jeb brilliant showed up with a bag of Nokias to play with, including the new touch-screen model (can’t recall the name of the model though). Jeb’s our resident mobile junkie. Jenifer Hanen (web development/geek/music industry/punk rock bowler) is always a welcomed sight at Tuttle, astounding us with a dizzying array of conversational topics. Of course, she waited until the very end to tell us it was actually her birthday! A few new faces: Luke Dorny and Al Pavangkanan both funny and interesting. Thanks for showing up lads! Would love to see you again. Me? I’m afraid apologies are in order. I spent the entire time rapping with Amir Motlagh on everything from the music and film industries, to the secret formula that makes media “blow up”, and silly Youtube videos that we think rock! Amir’s my boy :)

Thanks to everyone for making it yesterday and stay tuned, I believe we may have a VERY special Tuttle LA guest from across the pond on May 8th. Here’s a little Tuttle taste below:

The Tuttle Club Annual Report

April 9th, 2009

I know, I know, we just launched this blog two days ago, and we’re already posting an annual report? No, we’re not getting ahead of ourselves, the annual report is from Lloyd Davis, founder of the original Tuttle Club in London. London Tuttlers started meeting a bit more than a year ago (I believe I went to my first Tuttle in February ’08), and in the report Lloyd does a wonderful job documenting how the group has grown and how the connections people have made have led to some amazing things.

As this Tuttle LA group is just getting going and still working out when and where to meet as well as what will be best for us going forward, I feel the most relevant part of Lloyd’s report for us is the basics. What is Tuttle? What are you supposed to do there? And who’s invited, anyway?

But before we get to any of that, take heed of Lloyd’s #1 piece of advice: “If there are any rules to Tuttle, it’s sure that one near the top is ‘don’t take yourself too seriously.’”

The basics, from the report:

**** What is it? ****
The Tuttle Club is a loose association of people finding a way of working better together both online and off.

**** Who goes? ****
Most people have an interest in social media or online social networking — beyond that it’s hard to categorise them.

**** What happens? ****
People come along, meet new people, drink coffee, talk, scheme, build new businesses, find clients, suppliers and collaborators.  In short, they work hard at getting things done while having fun.

**** Why? ****
Is a very interesting question. There are (at least) as many reasons as there are Tuttlers. Mostly it boils down to a recognition that building rich relationships with real live people is a tremendously valuable activity.

**** How can I help? ****
Come along. See what we’re doing. Share your knowledge and your dreams. Come again and bring some friends.

**** Can I come? ****
Yes.

Tuttle LA #4: Friday, April 10, 2009

April 7th, 2009

library

This Friday we’ll be meeting up once again at the Library Coffee House in Long Beach. I’ll be getting there at 10:30 a.m., and I’ll get us as much of the room to the right of the counter as I can. Yes, it looks like a T-shirt shop/Zen den/Boho hideout, but it’s usually free, has lots of seating, and it’s away from people who are studying or otherwise trying to concentrate.

Let us know if you’ll be there by leaving a comment!

The details:

When: Friday, April 10, 2009, 10:30 a.m.

Where: The Library Coffee House in the sunny room on the right
3412 E Broadway
Long Beach, CA 90803
(562) 433-2393

Tuttle LA Finally Has a Blog

April 7th, 2009

Welcome to the new Tuttle LA blog! We’ve been meaning to get this up for a while and ran into some technical roadblocks before we could get it up, but it’s finally here. We’re bringing together our Tweets, videos, Photos and more, and we’ll also be posting about upcoming meetings.

We’re happy to take suggestions for what you’d like to see here, and would love to have submissions from any members who want to muse about social media, talk about their visions for Tuttle or anything else that would fit in this space.

We would also like people to start RSVPing to upcoming meetings in the comments so we have an idea of who to look out for.
